What this tool does

Generates placeholder text for a mockup, layout test, or CMS seed content -- in five shapes, four word banks, and three output formats, with a live word count while it is being tuned.

Content shapes

  • Paragraphs -- a chosen number of paragraphs, each built to roughly the target word count.
  • Sentences -- a run of standalone sentences.
  • Words -- a single block of loose words, no sentence structure.
  • List items -- short phrases, one per line.
  • Headings + paragraphs -- a heading followed by a paragraph of body text, repeated for however many sections are needed.

Word banks

Beyond the traditional Classic Latin bank, three joke word banks swap in different vocabulary while keeping the same sentence structure: Hipster (artisan, kombucha, fixie), Corporate (synergy, leverage, circle back), and Pirate (ahoy, scallywag, shiver me timbers). The classic bank can optionally start with the familiar "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet," opener.

Output format

The same generated content can be copied as plain text, wrapped in HTML tags (<p>, <h3>, <ul><li> depending on the shape), or as Markdown -- ready to paste straight into code, a CMS field, or a design mockup. A live count shows the resulting words, characters, paragraphs, and an estimated reading time as settings change.

What word banks are available besides classic Latin?
Hipster, Corporate, and Pirate -- each swaps in a different themed vocabulary while keeping the same sentence and paragraph structure as the classic bank.
Can I generate placeholder headings and body text together?
Yes -- the "Headings + paragraphs" content type produces a heading followed by a paragraph, repeated for however many sections are set.
What output formats can I copy or download?
Plain text, HTML (wrapped in the appropriate tags for the content type), or Markdown -- each downloads as a file with the matching extension.
Does it show a word count?
Yes -- a live count of words, characters, paragraphs, and an estimated reading time updates as the settings change.
Does it always start with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet"?
By default when the Classic Latin bank is selected -- it can be turned off if a fully random start is wanted instead, and the other three word banks never use it.
