What this tool does

It compares two dates and reports the distance between them in several forms at once, because "how far apart" has more than one right answer depending on what you are counting.

Calendar breakdown

The exact number of whole years, then whole months, then leftover days — the way a person would say an age or a tenure. This respects that months have different lengths.

Totals

The same gap expressed as a single number of days, of weeks, of hours and of minutes, for when you need one figure to put in a formula or a form.

Business days

The count of days from the range that are not a Saturday or a Sunday. Useful for delivery windows and notice periods. Public holidays are not subtracted — those vary by country.

Include the end date

Turn this on when both endpoints count — for example a hotel stay counted in nights versus a project counted in days worked. It adds one to the day-based figures.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the calendar breakdown not match days divided by 365?
Because months and years are not fixed lengths. The breakdown counts whole calendar years and months first, so "1 year 2 months" between January and March covers a different number of days depending on the year.
Does it count business days correctly across a long range?
It counts every day in the range that is a Monday to Friday. It does not subtract public holidays, which differ by country, so treat the business-day figure as weekdays only.
What does "include end date" change?
With it off, the difference is the gap between the two dates, so the same date twice is zero. With it on, both endpoints are counted, so the day-based totals go up by one.
Can the first date be later than the second?
Yes. The tool uses the absolute difference, so the order does not matter and the result is never negative.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. The day totals are exact calendar days, so a range that spans 29 February includes that day.
Is any data sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser.
